A suspect taken into custody after a hostage situation last week now faces charges related to the incident.
Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd has charged Gary Ray Corder Jr., 31, of Sikeston, Missouri, with one felony count each of kidnapping/facilitating a felony/inflicting injury/terrorizing, armed criminal action and forgery and a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment, online court records show.
Officers responded to a call about 5:30 p.m. Monday about a man barricaded in a room with a hostage at the Super 8 in Miner, Missouri, Miner police chief Chris Griggs said Tuesday.
Using surveillance footage, officers determined which room Corder had entered, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case.
When officers knocked, a woman answered the door, acting scared, the statement said. She denied anyone was with her, but officers told her they'd seen Corder enter the room, at which point he came up behind her and held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her if police didn't leave.
Griggs said Tuesday the Sikeston Department of Public Safety hostage negotiation team and SWAT Team conducted negotiations over the phone. Corder was taken into custody about 10 p.m.
The forgery charge stems from an incident earlier Monday when someone tried to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at McDonald's. Police determined a customer had received the $20 bill from Corder.
At the time of the alleged kidnapping, Corder already was wanted on a Scott County warrant for possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Judge Scott Horman set Corder's bond at $50,000 cash only, with the condition he have no contact with the victim.
No court date has been set.
