Nominations for "Small Business of the Year" are now being accepted by the Small Business Committee of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
"Nominations should be in the chamber office by Nov. 18," said Robert Fox, chairman of the small business awards committee. Nomination applications are available by contacting Fox, 334-8431, or the chamber office, 335-3312.
"Anyone can nominate a small business for the award," said Fox. "To be eligible the business must be locally owned. The business owner must live in Cape Girardeau. The business must have been in existence at least five years, and it must have less than 150 employees."
The business is judged in five areas: financial soundness, business growth and development, employee relations, customer satisfaction and civic leadership of employees and the employer.
"The program helps promote small business in the area," added Fox. "This is a prestigious award for the recipient."
Last year's winner was Jack Mehner of Advance Business Systems.
