John Mehner, past chairman of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Tuesday refuted a statement that the chamber won't pay its share of costs for the Cape Girardeau Area Industrial Recruitment Association unless the association operates out of the chamber office.

Mehner said the chamber board last month voted to appropriate $15,000 and proposed free chamber office space, bookkeeping and support staff for the association. If the office proposal is refused, he said, the chamber will "further study the matter."
