JACKSON -- The Jackson Chamber of Commerce's 1996 Installation Banquet will be held Monday, June 24 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.
Reservations are required and must be made by June 17. Cost is $10 per person. Call the chamber office at 243-8131 for more information.
Dr. Linda Godwin will the guest speaker. Godwin recently completed a space flight aboard the space shuttle Atlantis, which included the third docking with the Russian space station Mir. A NASA astronaut began a five-month stay aboard the Mir during the mission, and crewmembers transferred scientific and mission hardware, food, water and air.
Godwin performed a six-hour space walk -- the first performed while docked to an orbiting space station -- to mount experiment packages on the Mir docking module to detect and assess debris and contamination in a space station environment.
The banquet will also feature installation of chamber officers and the presentation of the R.A. Fulenwider Community Service Award.
Happy hour will begin at 6:15 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
