Chaffee resident wins lottery

For one Chaffee resident, the numbers 19, 21, 24, 28 and 29 may have been random at first, but they mean much than that now.

Those were the numbers Rodney Austin used to win the Show Me 5 Paydown drawing Feb. 1, scoring him a tax-paid $50,000 from the Missouri Lottery.

The numbers were chosen by Austin's wife, Shari, who picked them at random, a news release from the Missouri Lottery stated.

Austin, 45, has been using the same numbers for about a year and said in the release he planned on using the money to pay off his mortgage.

The odds of winning the Paydown drawing are 1 in 1,086,008, according to Missouri Lottery spokeswoman Susan Goedde.

The winning ticket was bought at Chaffee One Stop in Chaffee, and the store will receive a $500 bonus from the Missouri Lottery, Goedde said.

When a player wins the daily drawing, the Missouri Lottery awards them with $70,422.55, 29 percent of which is withheld for state and federal taxes, resulting in a lump sum of $50,000, the release stated.

Austin was the 99th winner since the $50,000 Paydown drawing began Nov. 6, 2000. There have been 100 winners total.
