CHAFFEE -- Chaffee resident Janice Rice Haas has been elected treasurer of the Missouri State Chapter of P.E.O. Haas has assumed her duties over 330 Missouri P.E.O. chapters and over 14,200 members.
A philanthropic educational organization, P.E.O. is international in scope with about 5,500 chapters, composed of 244,000 members, in the United States and Canada.
A member of P.E.O. Chapter CX in Chaffee, Haas has twice served as chapter president and as vice president, recording and corresponding secretary, treasurer, chaplain, guard, historian and program chairperson.
Haas has served at chairperson of the area-wide planning board which coordinated and hosted the Missouri State Chapter Convention in Cape June 7 to 9.
Haas, an insurance agent with Rice Insurance Agency, is a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Otahki Girl Scout Council from 1967 to 1988, during which time she served as Board secretary for three terms, as co-leader for Brownie and Girl Scout troops and as a Neighborhood Chairperson. The Council in 1978 presented her with the Thanks Badge in recognition of her service.
Haas is a member of the Chaffee Chamber of Commerce, the City of Roses Charter Chapter of ABWA, the Order of Eastern Star and the Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, Association and Foundation Partners program.
She is married to Harold Haas and is the mother of Joseph P. Rice of Cape Girardeau, Howell B. Rice of Chaffee and Julianne Fels of St. Louis.
