Jesse Chisum has submitted a letter resigning from his job as Chaffee police chief, according to Chaffee Mayor Loretta Mohorc.

Chisum is expected to read the letter as part of his report to the Chaffee City Council, which meets at 7 p.m. today at Chaffee City Hall, 222 W. Yoakum Ave., Mohorc said.

"It states in his resignation letter that school is more demanding than he anticipated and school has to come first. I told him I understood that," she said. Chisum has been attending nursing school.

According to Mohorc, Chisum's last day will be July 13.
