DONIPHAN, Mo. -- Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E marine operations officers recovered drowning victim Jeremy Evans from the Current River in Ripley County, Missouri, Sunday afternoon.
A report came in about 2:30 p.m. that Evans, a 34-year-old from Chaffee, Missouri, never resurfaced after jumping into the river at Deer Leap Recreation Area, an officer from Troop E said.
The Deer Leap Recreation Area is on the east bank of the Current River; it allows access for camping, and has an area for launching boats, canoes, rafts and tubes.
The body was recovered with the help of the Ripley County Sheriff's Office and the Ripley County Emergency Agency.
Crews had to drag the river in order to find Evans.
The incident took place just north of Doniphan, according to the officer.
The Troop E officer said an investigation is ongoing to discover what exactly happened to the swimmer.
