CHAFFEE - The Chaffee City Council approved the appointment of two reserve police officers Monday, bringing the city's reserve police force to five members.
One of the officers is a retired police officer from Harvey, Ill., a suburb south of Chicago. Police Chief Ivan McLain said the officer, Barry Hughes, has 26 years of law enforcement experience.
Hughes said he served as police chief in Harvey his final year and as interim sheriff for Bollinger County before Sheriff Dan Mesey took over in May.
The second officer is Billy Thorne. Thorne said he previously worked in security at Procter and Gamble for 6 years.
Council members accepted Hughes and Thorne as reserve officers after McLain told the council that the city's Police Commission recommended their appointment. Chaffee now has five reserve officers, said McLain.
