Chaffee Chamber of Commerce meets

The Chaffee Chamber of Commerce met Oct. 12 at 1st Commercial Bank, hosted by Food Giant. The treasurer's report was given by H.B. Rice and approved.

The patriotic banners have been put in place at Circle Park by city employees and all agreed that they are a nice addition to the city. It was approved that four banners with a Christmas theme be purchased at this time.

Discussion was held on the new downtown park. Ron Eskew brought up that the estimates for the implementation of the desired design were much higher than anticipated and there would probably be need for donations from the community.

Rice reported that a theme and date for the Christmas parade had been chosen. The Chaffee Christmas parade will start at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1, with this year's theme "A Red, White and Blue Christmas." Six local high school bands have been invited to participate. Since the Lions Club and the Optimist Club are both presently inactive, Steve Seyer will contact the Elks Lodge and see if it might be interested in co-sponsoring the parade.

Discussion on the Helping Hands Christmas Party was tabled, due to the absence of the chairmen of the project.

An empowerment zone designation for Chaffee was discussed, with both Seyer and Eskew having looked into it. Eskew advised that Chaffee didn't qualify because the city's standard of living was above the necessary criteria.

The next meeting will be Nov. 14.
