Missouri's Department of Natural Resources ended the mandatory boil water order placed on the city of Chaffee Tuesday.
A DNR report said bacteriological samples taken on Sept. 10 and 11 "were safe and testing shows an acceptable chlorine residual in the distribution system."
City councilman and water committee chairman Tom Cunningham said the lack of chlorine in the city's water system was traced to a malfunctioning chlorinator. A replacement also malfunctioned, but the second replacement was working fine, he said. Waters Engineering of Sikeston was called in to evaluate the municipal water treatment plant and make recommendations, he said.
