Ceremony for wall of fame pushed back

Organizers who oversaw the update of the Missouri Wall of Fame mural on Cape Girardeau's downtown floodwall had originally hoped to officially dedicate the mural this spring, but that ceremony will now be pushed back to the fall.

River Heritage Mural Association president Tim Blattner said Friday that progress on getting sponsorships for some of the mural panels has gone slower than expected, pushing back the timeline for an official dedication ceremony. The association has about the same amount of sponsorship money as it did in December -- about 65 percent of the total needed to pay for the project. The mural was completed in October, at which time about 60 percent of the needed sponsorship funding had been obtained.

However, Blattner said the delay is no cause for concern. Two years passed between the conception of the Mississippi River Tales mural project and the dedication ceremony for that project. The Wall of Fame update was conceived in February 2006.
