A week of activities is planned starting Monday to promote seat belt usage at Cape Girardeau Central High School.
The week, Nov. 2-6, is called Trivia Week. Each day, students will be asked a trivia question about highway safety. Prizes will be awarded throughout the week. A grand prize of $100 cash and dinner for two will be awarded at the end of the week.
The event is sponsored by Central High's Student Council, the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Cape Girardeau Community Traffic Safety Program.
Police officers and Community Traffic Safety Program personnel will be at the high school through the week asking questions and awarding instant prizes.
Students will survey seat belt usage on the Central High parking lots and will also be handing out prizes to those who are buckled up.
The goal of the event is to raise safety belt use over 70 percent.
A trivia week will be held at Notre Dame High School the week beginning Nov. 9, and is sponsored by the Notre Dame SADD Chapter, the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Community Traffic Safety Program.
