Linda Dirden, biology teacher at Cape Girardeau Central High School, recently attended a teacher education institute in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A total of 23 participants from all of the United States and Canada took the course which corresponds with a Biological Sciences Curriculum Study textbook. The books use an inquiry approach to teaching science, Dirden said.

She will be using the new techniques in her academic biology course this fall. "Instead of me giving the answer, now I will ask `What do you think?'" she explained.

During the institute, teachers completed all the labs in the book. "I feel very comfortable now with the textbook and the lessons," Dirden said.
