Emergency repairs to the pump at Central Swimming Pool will close down the facility Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday.
"Some of the seals have been going out and we were concerned that this was happening so early in the summer," said Dayna Miles, aquatic superintendent. "We wanted to take care of the problem now before the pump went out during a big event."
Miles said that with Capaha Pool "up and running well" they felt it was a good time to make the repairs at the Central pool.
Central pool will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday.
Miles said they will try to move all the programs they can to Capaha pool, including Early Bird Swim, practice for the Cape Swim Team and Jaycees and Kiwanis swimming lessons.
Capaha Pool will remain open until 5 p.m.
"It will be a lot less expensive to repair the pump now than have to replace it later," she said.
The cost of the work will be shared by the city and school district, which jointly operate the facility, she said.
Miles said that attendance has been good so far this summer at both pools.
