Poplar Bluff finished first, Malden was second and Cape Central was third in the Missouri State High School Activities Association District Speech Contest held Friday and Saturday at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Cape Central team of Rene Robinson and Takara Stanley finished first in the cross examination debate category. Central's Natalie Boren also was first in dramatic interpretation.
Other Cape Central finishers were Gabe Hinkebein, second in extemporaneous speaking; and Phillip Zoffuto, third in storytelling.
Jackson High School's top finishers were Jacob Presley, second in prose reading; Erin Friedrich, second in radio speaking; Keenan Kinder, third in extemporaneous speaking; and Ed Upchurch, third in humorous interpretation.
Scott City's High School's Betty Riehl finished fourth in storytelling.
Twenty-three schools participated in the contest.
