Musicians from Cape Girardeau Central High School earned top honors at state music competitions recently.
In the vocal categories, three ensembles won I ratings, the highest rating possible.
Earning the top honors were a girls' trio, Jeni Kafka, Sarah Deimund and Erica Wilson; a men's foursome, Rodney Bird, Clayton Hahs, Jason Green and Mark Shoger; and a Madrigal group, Leslie Maxwell, Tonia Stott, Jenny Adams, Tonja Larsen, Rodney Bird, Keller Ford, Jason Green and Billy Keys.
Soloists earning I ratings were Jeni Kafka, Rodney Bird, Dan Lancaster, Gwenda Bennett and Jason Green.
Three vocalists earned II ratings.
Instrumental musicians also earned top ratings at the state competition.
Two ensembles earned I ratings: a trumpet trio, Billy Keys Joe Werne and Darren Allcock; and the high-school percussion ensemble, Keith King, Matt Salzmann, Julie Edmundson, Jill Edmundson, Bryan Missey, Keller Ford and Steve Logel.
Soloists earning I ratings were Chris Ford on string bass, Billy Keys on trumpet, Tessy Paikeday on alto saxophone, and Traci Baker on alto saxophone.
In addition, three instrumental soloists and six ensembles earned II ratings.
