Two Southeast Missouri State University students will challenge two British scholars Monday in a debate about censorship.
"There is No Sense in Censorship" is the topic of the debate, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Kent Little Theatre on campus.
Dan Byron and Timm Schowalter, both juniors majoring in philosophy, will take on Helen Berry, a sophomore at Durham University in Britain and Kim Preston, a graduate of Birmingham University and the City University Law School in Britain.
Berry is president of the Durham Union Society and is an experienced debater. She has represented her university at competitions in Oxford, Liverpool and London and has competed at the World Student Debating Championships in Toronto this year.
Preston, of London, has received numerous debate awards in the past five years, including being honored at the World Debating Championships in Princeton, N.J. She holds the Inner Temple Public Speaking Trophy.
Byron and Schowalter will argue in favor of censorship.
