Leo Jean Cavaner, advertising account executive for the Southeast Missourian, retires from the newspaper today, announced advertising manager Irvin Landewee.

Cavaner said he plans to "work around home, fish, read, relax and enjoy life."

Cavaner started selling advertising for the Southeast Missourian 10 years ago. He and his wife, Ruby, live in Cape Girardeau.

"Jean is conscientious, aggressive and dedicated," Landewee said. "He has always had a great attitude and worked well with the advertisers and the staff."

Janie Haley has been named to replace Cavaner, whose service area included parts of Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Marble Hill.

Haley joined the Southeast Missourian advertising staff in August 1988. She has been selling advertising for the Southeast Missourian's targeted market publications, which include Tipoff, Zip Sheet and Today's Best Years.

"Janie is extremely dedicated and loyal, and her personality will be an asset for the staff members and the Southeast Missourian's business community," Landewee said.

Haley was advertising manager of the Bowling Green (Mo.) Times before joining the Southeast Missourian in 1988. A resident of Cape Girardeau, she and her husband, Jack, have three sons.
