CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. - A shout of "he's got a gun" prompted Caruthersville officers to take cover and unholster their weapons as they tried to stop a fight Saturday night.

Officers had stopped at a residence after seeing several subjects fighting in the front yard. As officers exited their vehicle, according to a news release issued by City Marshal Chris Riggs, one of the individuals alerted them to the gun.

The man with the gun was ordered to show his hands several times by officers. "The subject then reached behind his back and pulled out what appeared to be a large revolver," said Riggs. The officers again had to order the man to drop the weapon several times and as officers approached he eventually dropped the weapon to the ground.

Officers secured the a 24-year-old Caruthersville man and the gun. Also during a search of the suspect, officers located several pills of some type, Riggs reported.

The man was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail where he is being held pending the filing of formal charges.
