Yvonne Carter of Jackson got involved in the preservation of family photos and memorabilia five and half years ago. In July, she turned her hobby into a business.
It all started after her wedding. She had about 400 extra photos of her wedding and she had no idea of what to do with them.
In her search to find the best way to preserve these photos she learned a lot about photo safe materials. Eventually, she found a company in Minnesota named Creative Memories that had the materials she needed to preserve her family memories.
"It's something that I am very passionate about," she said.
With her business she teaches classes that show how to preserve and to record family history.
So far she has taught about 20 people her methods and she said that there are many people interested in photo preservation in the area.
Carter added that even if you aren't interested in preserving family memories, your grand children will be.
Carter said that she isn't the only person in the county that is involved in this business. "There are a lot of people in this business."
She said she does it because she gets a lot of enjoyment out of it. And she said many of her students get enjoyment out of her classes because they are working with their memories.
Carter's hobby would still be a hobby had her friends not encouraged her to go into business.
