Caring Communities helps Cape Girl Scouts supply food to needy

Girl Scouts in Cape Girardeau put together Easter dinner for needy families in the area. They packed Girl Scout cookie cartons with non-perishable items and a meat certificate for families of four. Caring Communities determined who would receive a basket and handled the distribution.

Kathy Parsons, Cape Girardeau School social worker and representative from Caring Communities handling the distribution, said, "We'll deliver the cartons of food to families who were unable to pick it up."

Girl Scouts learned the importance of helping others and had the oppportunity to practice decision making, financial planning, consumer education, balanced meal planning, nutrition and comparative shopping.

Completed baskets were distributed at Trinity Lutheran School April 12.

Gretchen Weber, social work practicum student from Southeast Missouri State University, assisted Parsons on Saturday. She communicated the significance of this opportunity for giving, "Everyone donates at Thanksgiving and Christmas but forgets about the other 10 months."
