Dr. Gregory C. Flaker was honored along with seven other individuals April 8 at the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical Alumni Organization's awards luncheon at Kansas City. The presentation was held in conjunction with the Missouri State Medical Association's annual meeting.
Flaker, associate professor of internal medicine and director of the electrophysiology laboratory at the MU School of Medicine, received one of two Outstanding Young Physician Awards. The honor is given to alumni, age 45 or younger, who have distinguished themselves in medicine.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau in 1968, Flaker attended MU, where he received a bachelor's degree in zoology in 1972 and played basketball for the Tigers. He was awarded a post-doctoral scholarship in 1972 from the National Collegiate Athletic Association and went on to earn his medical degree from MU in 1976. He completed his internal medicine residency at MU in 1979 and a cardiology fellowship at Ohio State University in 1981.
Flaker and his wife Sondra have five children. His parents, Clyde and Mary Flaker, reside in Cape Girardeau.
