About 60 Notre Dame sophomores will see their history lessons come alive when they visit an exhibit on the legendary French general and emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in Memphis on May 13.
To help finance the trip, the students will sponsor a car wash Saturday outside the office of Dr. David Crowe, 1736 Broadway.
Doug Bruce, teacher of the world history class, explained that students made a similar trip several years ago that was very successful.
"We're trying to get kids out of the classroom and make available the opportunities out there to learn history," he said.
The trip will cost each student $15-25 for the travel, tickets, and souvenirs. "The kids are paying the costs, but we're trying to help offset the tickets and lunch," he said.
The car wash is scheduled 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. "We invite people to come by and support our efforts," said Bruce.
"We have just finished a unit on Napoleon in class, so the timing just couldn't be better," he said. "We've heard very good things about this exhibit."
The Napoleon show is part of the Wonders series at the Memphis Cook Convention Center from April 22-Sept. 22.
