Cape's Kohl's store not among those that are closing across nation

In February, Kohl’s announced its intention to close several underperforming stores nationwide.

This week, the company announced 18 selected locations. The Cape Girardeau location will remain open.

With the exception of one Illinois location and a store in Wisconsin, the closures are occurring on the east and west coasts: nine California stores, two in Florida, three in Georgia and one each in North Carolina and New Jersey.

The closures will take place June 19.

The company stated in a news release employees will be offered opportunities to transfer to other stores or accept severance packages.

The company stated in the release it intends to pilot seven smaller-format Kohl’s stores throughout the country.
