What started as a minor traffic stop turned into a minor brawl Monday when a woman, objecting to her husband's arrest, slapped one police officer and bit another, police said.

According to police reports, Cape Girardeau patrolmen Dan Seger and Robert Watson stopped a car driven by Jason Pearson at about 11 p.m. after it failed to stop for a red light.

When it turned out that Pearson was driving with expired license plates and a revoked driver's license, Seger started to arrest him.

Pearson's wife, Carly Renae Pearson, flew into a rage, police said.

When she slapped Watson's face, he decided to arrest her. A struggle ensued. Seger stepped in to help and ended up getting bitten on the finger so hard he required a tetanus shot the next day.

The Pearsons, who are in their 20s, live on Lorimier Street.

Carly Pearson was charged with two class A misdemeanor charges of assault of a law enforcement officer. She is being held in lieu of $5,000 bond.

Jason Pearson was issued summonses for his traffic offenses and released.
