Cape woman facing forgery charges waives preliminary hearing

A woman charged with forging $22,582 in checks from a faith-based organization was bound over to Circuit Court Wednesday.

Sherma S. Wilks, 38, of 3916 Hopper Drive, waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp, who scheduled her to appear in Circuit Court July 10 before Judge Benjamin Lewis.

Wilks is charged with three counts of forgery, accused of forging checks from Project Hope, a faith-based mentoring program where she formally worked. The defendant, who appeared in court wearing orange jail clothing, was being held in lieu of a $22,500 cash bond.
