A Cape Girardeau died in a head-on collision near Ware, Ill., Friday.

Brenda Eakin, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to Illinois State Police.

Two other people were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau with serious injuries. They were Eakin's 5-year-old grandson, Tyler, and the driver of the other vehicle, David D. Wright, 37, of Jonesboro, Ill.

The accident occurred at 3:58 p.m. on Illinois Route 146, at the Clear Creek Bridge, two and a half miles east of Ware.

The State Police gave this account:

Wright, who was travelling eastbound, lost control of his vehicle, which crossed the center line to collide with Eakins' westbound vehicle.

The State Police are continuing their investigation.
