Sunday morning the Scott County Court charged Amanda Carr, 29, of Cape Girardeau with robbery and armed criminal action.
Friday evening the Sikeston, Missouri, Department of Public Safety received a call of a robbery at Quick Check II convenience store at 206 E. Center St. in Sikeston. Upon arriving they found a disturbance in the parking lot among Carr, the store clerks and other patrons, a police news release said.
The officers detained Carr and a man who drove her to the store.
Store employees told officers Carr came into the business and pulled out a large butcher's knife and demanded money. The store clerks were familiar with the woman and said she often visits the Quick Check. Carr then allegedly took cash from the register and ran outside.
Officers found cash from the register scattered about in the front passenger seat of the vehicle belonging to the 71-year-old man who drove Carr to the store. The man said Carr had waved him down minutes earlier several blocks away. He said he didn't know her but drove her to the convenience store so she could call someone to pick her up. He said the woman went into the business and came out a short time later, chased by employees and others.
Officers interviewed several witnesses and located the butcher's knife in the parking lot a few feet from the suspects vehicle.
Later investigators interviewed Carr, and she confirmed the 71-year-old man had no knowledge of what occurred inside the business. He was then released.
Carr was given a $25,000 cash-only bond and transported to the county jail. She awaits arraignment.
