The city of Cape Girardeau will be recognized for flood protection efforts.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, will present a certificate of appreciation to the city Tuesday at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway. The presentation begins at 6 p.m., with a Flood Preparedness Workshop scheduled to follow at 6:30 p.m.

The corps' St. Louis District oversees about 90 flood protection districts. Cape Girardeau is the first district to receive this distinction in 10 years, for "its outstanding operation and management of the Cape Girardeau Flood Protection Systems, including levees and the downtown flood wall," according to a news release from the city.
