Cape Girardeau teacher Pat Heckert was among state educators honored at a banquet last month at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

The ceremony was part of the Missouri Scholars Academy Appriciation Day.

At the appreciation banquet, students had a chance to honor and thank the teachers who influenced them the most.

Vicki Ventrella, a junior at Cape Girardeau Central High, nominated Heckert for the honor.

Teachers were given certificates of appreciation by Robert E. Bartman, Missouri Commissioner of Education, and Richard Wallace, vice president for Academic Affairs of the University of Missouri.
