Cape suspects in Briarwood burglary plead not guilty

Three local defendants were in court this week, each pleading not guilty to the charges stemming from a Cape Girardeau burglary last month.

Ombreis Watson, Melvine Stuckey, both 18, and Aaliyah Curry, 17, entered pleas of not guilty Monday before Judge Gary Kamp set Oct. 31 preliminary hearings for them all. Each face charges of second-degree burglary and theft and all remain in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of $6,000 bond. Additionally, Stuckey will have a revocation hearing that same date because the new charge is a violation of probation handed down from a previous theft. Stuckey was also ordered to stay away from Curry as part of the probation.

According to prosecutors, police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Briarwood Sept. 28 after receiving a report of suspicious activity at a home. When the officers arrived, witnesses gave a description of a man and two women who had fled the scene. Officers canvassed the immediate area and located the three suspects who matched the description given to them by the witnesses.
