Gregory Rubel of Cape Girardeau is the 1993 recipient of the $1,000 Wal-Mart Foundation community scholarship, said Terry Godwin, store manager of the Cape Girardeau Wal-mart.
The scholarship is awarded each spring by Wal-Mart to an area college of university bound high school senior and is payable over a one-year period.
Rubel, a senior at Notre Dame High School, plans to attend Maryville University in St. Louis this fall.
Godwin said the scholarship criteria is based primarily on academic performance, involvement in school and community and financial need.
In addition, scholarship alternates selected are first alternate Angela Judd of Scott City, attending the University of Missouri-Columbia; and second alternate Sandra Bounds of Cape Girardeau, attending St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
