More than 200 passes have been presold to the first Cape Girardeau Storytelling Festival to begin April 4 and continue through next weekend.

The event will be held in three tents in downtown Cape Girardeau. Four nationally known storytellers and others from the Midwest will perform over the three days.

More than 600 students from schools all over Southeast Missouri are scheduled to attend performances on April 4, when the stories will focus on children. Students can attend one session on April 4 for $2 and pay $1 if they want to attend an additional session.

Performances will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and continue through the day, with an evening performance at 7 p.m. in the tent on the River Campus. Performances begin at 10 a.m. April 5 and 6. A second evening performance will be held at 7 p.m. April 5 on the River Campus.

A pass to the festival for both adults and children for the other days is $20. Passes are available by calling 573-335-1631 or emailing info@visitcape.com.

The storytellers also will teach master's classes. To enroll contact the Office of Extended and Continuing Education, Southeast Missouri State University, www.semo.edu/continuinged, 573-986-6879.
