A man accused of being the gunman in a drive-by shooting Friday on North Spanish Street has two weeks to find a lawyer.
In appearance Monday before Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp, Willie Harvey IV, 18, of 109 Centennial Drive, asked for and was given until May 17 to hire a lawyer to represent him on assault and armed criminal action charges. Both charges are felonies, and Harvey faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
Harvey is being held on $250,000 cash-only bond at the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
Harvey is accused of wounding Reno Jones, 28, in the hip after firing several shots from a black Pontiac Grand Prix shortly before 10 a.m. Friday. Jones was walking in the 800 block of North Spanish Street with a friend when the driver of the car called out to them and began firing.
Harvey was also due in court Monday in New Madrid County, where he also faces assault and armed criminal action charges. Associate Circuit Judge Charles L. Spitler postponed a ruling on whether to revoke Harvey's $100,000 bond in that case until a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 21.
Harvey is represented by Cape Girardeau lawyer Stephen C. Wilson in the New Madrid County case.
