The policy requires board members to avoid situations where their actions may conflict with the mission of the Cape Girardeau School District and also prohibits them from being employed by the district, other than on a voluntary basis. The policy also touches on contracting matters, "self-dealing" and nepotism.

The school board also approved without discussion to approve assistant superintendent Sherry Copeland as the coordinator of the district's assessment, or testing, program. Deena Ring, the district's director of special services, was approved as the Title IX, Section 504 and ADA coordinator and also the coordinator for the Homeless Children, Youth and Migrants and ESL program. She was also appointed as the educational liaison for the Children in Foster Care program.
