CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Cape Girardeau Rotary Club is soliciting essays from for a district contest.

Students in junior and senior high school may enter. The theme of the essay is "Preserve our Community: Planet Earth."

The essay must be typewritten, double-spaced, and must not exceed 1,150 words. The entry must have a removable cover page with the author's name, address, phone number, name of Rotary Club and school category.

The first prize entry will receive $75, second place, $50, and third place, $25. The winners will also be guests are the Rotary District Conference in April to receive their awards.

The deadline for entries to be received by the local club is March 11.
