Three large trees at Cape Rock Park were toppled during Monday's storms causing considerable damage to the park.

The American Legion is making plans to repair the damage and is looking for help.

One of the trees landed on two cars parked at the scenic overlook. When a tree was uprooted, it also overturned a concrete pad and bench.

The rail and bench along the overlook was damaged by falling limbs, and the flag pole at the park was damaged.

"We can get it cleaned up, but it will take some work," said Herb Nance, who with members of the American Legion help maintain the park.

A carving of Louis Lorimier at the park, by chain saw artist August Birk, was undamaged in the storm. Birk has agreed to carve another figure from one of the downed trees.

"But we have no shade at the park," Nance said. "Maybe a pavilion could be erected at the park."
