Cape Girardeau received the second-largest share of $1.5 million distributed statewide for engineering reports on the city water and wastewater systems.
The city will receive $144,540 from the 2009 federal economic stimulus program and put the city in a priority position if it applies for a loan from the Missouri State Revolving Loan Fund, the state Department of Natural Resources announced. The funding enables public water systems to hire an engineer to study their water system and advise them on how to achieve or maintain compliance with drinking water rules and regulations, the department said. The city is required to provide a 10 percent match.
Liberty, Mo., received the largest grant, $157,604.
