Citing large volume of leaves to be collected and weather conditions, the Cape Girardeau Public Works Department announced a one-week delay in leaf collection for two parts of the city, Zone C and Zone D.
Zone C includes the city limits west of Kingshighway. This area was originally scheduled for this week, but will now be collected from Dec. 4 to 8.
Zone D includes the area east of Kingshighway and west of a line bordered by North and West Cape Rock Drive, north of Lexington Avenue and west of Old Sprigg Street Road. This area was originally scheduled for pickup Dec. 4 through 8, and will now be picked up Dec. 11 through 15.
Crews continue to work in Zone B this week through Friday. Zone B covers the area north of Broadway and east of North Cape Rock Drive/West Cape Rock Drive to Lexington Avenue. The boundary then goes east on Lexington Avenue. to Old Sprigg Street Road, which it follows north to the city limits.
The compost holding area at 453 Cooper St. (across from Kasten Masonry) will remain open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 22 for residential drop off of leaves.
People with questions regarding the city's leaf collection program may call the Public Works Department at 334-9151.
