Police have recovered an elderly Cape Girardeau woman's car after it was stolen during a robbery Sunday afternoon. Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said the 1997 brown Ford Taurus was found unoccupied and abandoned on Hazel Street late Tuesday afternoon. Police have not yet recovered the woman's wallet, television or cellphone also stolen during the robbery. Hickey said the name of the victim is not being released, citing the ongoing investigation. She was taken to the hospital Sunday with a hip injury sustained during the robbery, but police could not comment on her medical status Wednesday afternoon. "Our detectives are giving her a few days so we don't overload her with questions," Hickey said.
Napoleon A. Cornelius Jr., 18, of Cape Girardeau and Britney L. Morse, 22, of Perryville, Missouri, were charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree burglary, both felonies; and felony stealing a motor vehicle.
