Cape Girardeau police will set up sobriety checkpoints this weekend to scare drunk drivers off the road.
"The Cape Girardeau Police Department intends to place impaired drivers in fear of being arrested each time they get behind the wheel of an automobile," said Steve Strong, interim police chief.
Drivers may experience minor traffic delays at certain locations due to the checkpoints. Police will be stopping cars passing the checkpoints to look for impaired drivers.
"The warmer weather encourages citizens to enjoy more outside activities, and law enforcement agencies in our community intend to increase their focus on impaired driving," Strong said.
