Authorities have identified people of interest in a series of burglaries that plagued Cape Girardeau earlier this summer but have not made arrests.
"Are we ready to charge one person or a group people? Not yet," Cape Girardeau Sgt. Rick Schmidt said. "Right now we've had an increased number of residential burglaries."
Cape Girardeau police took reports of 11 residential burglaries or thefts from vehicles Wednesday and Thursday, according to the department media log.
Schmidt said officers working the midnight shift are placing extra emphasis on finding those responsible for burglaries.
In Cape Girardeau, a Fairview Drive resident was the victim of a home-invasion burglary June 21, investigators said. Several homes and vehicles in a residential area in north Cape Girardeau were broken into and vandalized in May.
"We just need that one break, that kick-start of information that will lead to arrests," Schmidt said. "We're trying to solve them, the whole department is trying to solve them,"
At least 16 burglaries or attempted break-ins occurred in Jackson during a three-week period in June. Authorities eventually offered a $5,000 reward for information about the incidents. Calls to the Jackson Police Department Thursday were not returned.
Other agencies are also dealing with burglaries.
The Perry County Sheriff's Department arrested Keith A. Satterfield II, 21, of Imperial, Mo., after five burglaries that occurred in Longtown, Mo., last week. He was charged with eight felonies for burglary and stealing and seven misdemeanors for stealing and property damage, according to a news release from the Perry County Sheriff's Department. Family members turned him in after he paid them with allegedly stolen items for giving him a ride to his mother's house, a probable-cause statement said.
Satterfield remained in custody Thursday on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf said Thursday that almost all property stolen during the burglaries had been recovered.
It is unlikely Satterfield was involved in other recent area burglaries because he didn't have transportation, Schaaf said.
The burglaries of a church and two businesses in Cape Girardeau County were discovered July 11.
In Jackson, Strawberry Lane, Briarwood Street, Primrose Lane, Connie Drive, Pioneer Orchard, Bainbridge Road and homes near the Bent Creek Golf Course have been the scenes of burglaries or break-ins.
