Cape Girardeau police continued Monday to investigate a possible arson and burglary incident after a house fire Sunday morning.

The fire department was sent to a structure fire at 1020 N. Clark St. about 8 a.m.

Police Sgt. Adam Glueck said it appears the fire began after the house was burglarized.

No one was home at the time the fire started, Glueck said.

According to the fire department, smoke was observed coming from the garage of the house when firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said police and the state fire marshal’s office were contacted.
