At the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Awards Luncheon in Osage Beach, Mo., law enforcement agencies from around the state were honored for outstanding achievements and dedication to Special Olympics Missouri.

The torch run, founded in 1986, is an organization made up of law enforcement agencies that support Special Olympics through volunteer and fund-raising efforts. What began 19 years ago as a 30-mile run is now a four-day relay including 931 runners and covering more than 950 miles.

Award winners for Region 6 included the Cape Girardeau Police Department with the highest increase in gross with $5,325 total. The award was accepted by chief Steve Strong and officer Dennis Horn of the police department. Dennis Horn also received the outstanding volunteer/ unsung hero award.
