Police began the chase at the intersection of Sprigg and Watkins streets about 5 p.m. when officers ran the plate of the vehicle and found it had not been returned to a rental company in Scott County, according to Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Rick Schmidt.

Officers tried to conduct a stop at the intersection, but the vehicle continued south on Sprigg, then headed west before driving east on Highway 74. Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Adam Glueck said officers told him the driver did not drive at an excessive speed.
