A search warrant executed Wednesday morning by the SEMO Drug Task Force and Cape Girardeau police led to a chase through an apartment building.

According to a news release from the Cape Girardeau Police Department, a search of Nathan E. Smith's apartment at 509 Bellevue St. uncovered drug paraphernalia, suspected cocaine and marijuana.

Officers entered Smith's apartment around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday through the front door, and Smith allegedly ran out the back door of his apartment and kicked in a door so he could enter through the back of another apartment upstairs. When he tried to run out that apartment's front door, he was detained by officers.

Smith, 30, is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute cocaine, felony possession of a controlled substance and first-degree burglary. He is in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
