CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Dr. S. Edwin Noffel, a Cape Girardeau orthodontist, returned this week after attending a meeting of the Reunion Scientifique Europeene Societe Francaise D'Orthopedie Dento Faciale. This is the equivalent of the American Association of Orthodontists. The meeting was held in Lyon, France, May 7th to 11th.
Dr. Noffel was one of four American orthodontists invited by his French counterparts to present a paper at the meeting. His paper, which is an extension of ongoing professional studies Noffel has pursued for years, addressed the diagnostic aspect of orthodontics, focusing on facial form, or beauty of the face.
Dr. Noffel related one special highlight, which occurred at dinner one evening. One of the French hosts rose to his feet to toast and thank Dr. and Mrs. Noffel and all Americans for liberating his city of Lyon and his country of France.
Noffel said of the French orthodontists, "They are very progressive in their technology and treatment. It was great to be able to mix with professional peers and exchange methods and expertise. And, they were marvelous hosts!"
