Cape officer shoots man inside a home

A Cape Girardeau police officer shot a man inside a house about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of La Petite Court, according to police chief Wes Blair at the scene.

The officer had engaged the man in some way inside the house, Blair said.

The man was shot at least once and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, Blair said.

Blair did not know the condition of the man. Blair did not say how many times the man was shot.

The officer was uninjured, Blair said.

Officers were investigating inside and outside the house. Blair could not say why the officer shot the man.

Officers had a man in his late 20s or early 30s dressed in a camouflage shirt in handcuffs at the scene.

Blair did not say whether the man in handcuffs was a suspect in a crime or whether he was inside the house at the time of the shooting and needed to be restrained for safety reasons.

People were inside the house at the time of the shooting, Blair said.

A silver Chrysler Sebring with damage to its rear was parked at an angle in the driveway of the residence in question.
