Cape Girardeau native Larry G. Points, a graduate of Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University, has co-authored a children's book about Atlantic coastal beaches.
The book is titled "Ribbons of Sand -- Exploring Atlantic Beaches" and was published by Sierra Press.
His first book, titled "Assateague -- Island of the Wild Ponies," is being redesigned by Sierra and will be released in June.
Points and co-author Andrea Jauck, a former seashore naturalist who now works at the Will County Forest Preserve in Illinois, worked on the project for two years.
After graduating from SEMO in 1966, Points served in the U.S. Army before joining the National Park Service at Mt. Rainier National Park in Washington. He has served at Assateague Island National Seashore as chief of park interpretation since 1974.
He lives with his wife and two young daughters in Delmar, Md.
He has placed copies of the book in the Cape Girardeau Public Library and at Franklin Elementary School, which he attended as a child.
